Description

Starting from Piazza Umberto I (O) (in front of the Church of San Biagio), proceed along via Don Bosco, then turn right after 100 m onto via IV Novembre. After another 100 m, turn left towards the Serra hamlet. Upon reaching a small church, pass to its right and continue straight, arriving after 700 m at the Church of San Martino, within the cemetery. Beyond the church, continue straight on the track that slightly descends amid cultivated fields, meadows, and small woods, which may become very muddy in case of rain. Ignoring three subsequent deviations (two to the right, the last to the left), after about 1 km, turn left onto a slightly uphill road, passing by the agritourism Cascina Campora. Upon reaching an asphalt road, turn right, then shortly after, left, arriving at the main road crossing the Serra hamlet of Buttigliera d’Asti. This intersects with Stage 3 of the Middle Path, to which reference is made for the description of the final part of the itinerary.

In the Footsteps of Don Bosco

Don Bosco in Buttigliera d’Asti: In 1829, leaving the Church of San Biagio, Giovanni was approached by the old chaplain Don Calosso who jokingly asked him to repeat at least four words from the sermon he had heard. Calmly, Giovanni recited it all, from start to finish. Amazed by the young man’s memory, Don Calosso invited Giovanni’s mother, Margherita, to the church in Morialdo, where Giovanni later went to live. In 1833, Giovanni Bosco received the sacrament of Confirmation in the Church of San Biagio.
