Castelnuovo Don Bosco (formerly Castelnuovo d’Asti) with over 3,200 inhabitants and located 28 km from Turin gets its name from a fortified building dating back to the 11th century, of which only a renovated tower remains. The historic center has developed around this tower.
Mondonio San Domenico Savio (population 150, distance from Turin 34 km) is a hamlet of Castelnuovo dominated by the medieval Rivalba Castle, with a beautiful square featuring a baroque parish church. This picturesque village was home to St. Domenico Savio, who lived and died here due to cholera in the house-museum at the entrance of the village. The library is dedicated to him and houses historical artifacts. It is located near the woodshed of the ancient communal oven from 1746.
Colle Don Bosco (population 3,276, distance from Turin 35 km). The hill of Becchi hosts the complex of buildings of the Salesian Sanctuary and a training center. The Basilica, which includes the Upper Church – internally lined with wood – and the Lower Church, is preceded by a large square surrounded by the neo-Gothic church of Mary Help of Christians, the small house where the Saint lived, the museum of rural life, and the ethnographic and Salesian missions museum, with over seven thousand artifacts. In the Upper Church, the mechanical organ with 36 real registers and 3,328 pipes and the wooden statue of the Resurrected Christ from Ortisei, carved from a single trunk, are noteworthy. In the Lower Church, the organ boasts 31 real registers and 2,500 pipes.
