Recommended clothing

The market offers a wide range of hiking products, suitable for every season, need, and budget. One should seek the best equipment for the climatic conditions expected during the hike. Dressing in layers Layering (or “onion-style”) dressing is advisable, so that you can add or remove a layer depending on the weather conditions. The outermost layer should protect against rain and wind while also ensuring layers of air for body perspiration and insulation from the cold. It’s recommended to use technical, sweat-resistant fabrics that don’t develop unpleasant odors even after prolonged use.

Shoes are a fundamental item for hiking, as they need to ensure comfort, support, and protection. The Don Bosco Way may have slippery sections where a stubborn layer of mud can accumulate under the footwear, causing balance problems during descents and should be removed as soon as possible. For this reason, lightweight, breathable shoes with a non-slip sole (like Vibram) are recommended. Special attention should be paid to choosing the right size to ensure adequate space for the toes and to avoid embarking on long journeys in brand new shoes that could cause blisters.

Many hikers use walking sticks only on the more difficult sections of their walks or not at all, overlooking an accessory that is actually very valuable. When used correctly, it improves coordination skills, offloads weight from the joints, and aids in maintaining balance. This is particularly true with the technique of Nordic Walking, which – thanks to the specific poles used in this discipline – engages over 90% of the musculature.

An essential list for trekking the entire Don Bosco Way – including overnight stays at the various stages – depending on the season, could include: jacket, sweatshirt, trousers, shorts, washable technical material underwear, socks, rain poncho, gloves, tubular bandana, warm hat or cap, sunglasses, headlamp, pocket knife, map, cell phone with trail tracking apps (such as Mapy.cz, Outdoor active, Terra map) or GPS device, hygiene and medical bag (toothbrush and toothpaste, soap, shampoo, tissues and toilet paper, towel, sunscreen, aspirin, insect repellent and post-bite cream, adhesive bandage, disinfectant, bandage, and safety pins).
Regarding medications, the Guide lists the pharmacies located along the Don Bosco Way, with the exception of those in Turin.
